Spring League News

Our spring league seasons are underway. Here are some reports on how the teams are doing....District Sports Saturday Mens LeagueThe biggest news I have to report out is that the Monuments and Ball Busters merged teams to become the "Cherry Bombs" to match our blush pink uniforms.  The Cherry Bombs are continuing the FTSC social tradition and I have no doubt that our post-game food & beverage tab is largest of any club team (visiting Nellies, Domku and most recently The Hitching Post - see FB posted by Brandon Fitzgerald).1096976_10152339305182241_4265159577728066156_oGames Report:1) Battling Ocelots were served a bowl of Meow Mix when the Cherry Bombs with a strong offense led by Tom Goss (2 goals), Luke Jones & Lucas Navarro.  Big welcome to Cole Reilly on his debut, who not only led a strong defense but also scored a goal.2). The Cherry Bombs attempted to serve the Rough Trade with a big vat of petroleum jelly to ease our way between their goal posts.  Alas,it was our cherries that were macerated with a final score of Rough Trade 3 and Cherry Bombs 0.3) The Cherry Bombs had a strong showing with 16 players.  Despite our superior force, a beautiful goal by Luke Jones, Cherry Bombs left the pitch without victory.  However post-game we reconvened on the patio to help celebrate John Guzman's milestone "21st" birthday with chocolate chip, peanut butter and carrot cake cookies made by team mom for a day, Cole Reilly. The Battling Ocelots combine a mix of cagey veterans and promising new talent.  Although they are still searching for their first victory, all of the games have been hard fought and competitive.  In the last game against the  talented Rough Trade team, Nirun set up a Victor/Prateik combination for a nice goal. FTSC Rough Trade opened its spring season with inter-club match wins against the Cherry Bombs and the Battling Ocelots. Brandon Warner's four goals in those two games account for half of the team's goals this season so far. Also scoring were Jose Martinez, who notched two, and Kevin Smith. The team has been missing many of its regulars so big thanks to Ivo Blagoyev, Tony Bono, Adam Breen, Ian Hannigan, Stephen Hellier, and Jason Wilcox for filling in and doing a great job. The team next takes on nascent nemesis Team Tevez onSaturday, April 19, at 1pm at Spingarn High School in NE DC. Supporters welcome.District Sports Coed Teams

Last month, FTSC So Emotional managed to triumph in the playoffs of the Saturday D1 coed 11v11 District Sports league. The quarterfinals were decided by a goal in the first minute of the game by Travis Hunnings which held up for the 1-0 win. Immediately after that, the team had to play a semifinal game against a fresh Bromania. Kaiser Chowdhry provided a hattrick for a 3-2 win. Sadly, the team (and the club) lost goalkeeper Joe Howard who suffered an ACL tear near the end of the game. The following day, under immense defensive pressure battling hard to keep a clean sheet, Jake Graetz scored the championship winning goal with an assist from David Leipziger in the dying moments of the game. The team has now transformed into the United States Women's National Team and has begun the spring season undefeated at 1-0-2.

FTSC The Plastics (formerly FTSC More Butts) continues our winning ways in the Wednesday D1 coed 7v7 District Sports Cardozo league beginning the new season 2-0-1. The previous season ended with the team finishing in second place.FTSC Wolfpack closed it's final season at Tubman by winning the regular season but despite excellent play leading to a team goal finished off by Jared Rifis fell to NAW in the semifinals of the playoffs 2 - 1. In the new league at Maret the 'pack opened it's season with a convincing 4 - 1 over the very same NAW with goals from Timmy Convey, Doug Farrar and Jared Rifis.WAWSLVictorious Secret is doing well. We have two 0-0 ties. The Vintage Feds are off to a solid start, winning their first 3 games of the season.  The defense has been solid, allowing just 1 goal so far!The Feds (no report) WISLFTSC Unicorns began the WISL season on March 30th, with a 1-0 win played in rain and hail. John Whitfield scored a long range effort in the first half providing the only goal of the game. After two weeks off, the Unicorns will return to the field this coming Sunday.NoVA Coaches' LeagueD Listers handily defeated Warriors SC last Friday 9-1 way out in Fairfax county.  The warriors had trouble penetrating D Listers defense while the D Listers dominated the midfield. Warriors SC was no pushover, but they were not match for the D Listers A team.  D Listers moved to Northern Virginias Coaches League (NVCL) and play in the upper White division. There is a “Gray division” we were are planning on retiring to in a few seasons!Arlington Coed KicksDC Feds Coed defeated Balls out on a cold late April night and they did it with 10 players on the field.  Robert S. made his return debut as keeper in a couple seasons. Playing down two players Andy K. suck a quick goal early in the first half.  The goal was answered by balls out late in the first half sending the game to a tie at half time.  DC Feds Coed’s Rob B. scored a goal of a rebound in the 2nd half to take the lead which Balls Out did not answer giving the DFC their 2nd win of 3 games this season.
