Weekend report, 5/3/21
Field issues are still preventing use of Barrie School as the spot where DCPL and WAWSL could do their spring season, with two quite different results for FTSC's two active teams.
DCPL was able to reschedule the remainder of their season, letting the Rainbow Unicorns play their penultimate game against the Federal City Wanderers at MLK Jr. Regional Park in Silver Spring, MD. The Unicorns' hope to have a late season surge was emphatically dashed with a blowout loss, leaving them at 2-4 on the season, with the consolation of finding the back of the net themselves twice yesterday. They will finish the season this coming Sunday against the Oranje (4-1) at Fort Ward Park in Alexandria, VA.
Sadly for the league-leading Feds, the field availability issue has caused the cancellation of the rest of the women's spring season, with the last week of games and the championship final recently being removed from the official District Sports page for the league. A number of local recreational sporting associations, including District Sports and FTSC, are attempting to work with the DC City Council to allow for the resumption of use of DC's recreational fields compliant with CDC guidelines, especially considering many of DC's other COVID-related restrictions have already been lifted or at least relaxed.
One benefit of many restrictions now being relaxed is that the timing has worked out well for DC's #SmallBusinessWeek, which is happening all this week. If you missed #FTSCSupportASponsorWeek, this is another excellent opportunity to show your love for our sponsors and share your excursions on social media with this week's hashtag #iBuyDC. (No, I don't know why they didn't capitalize the first letter there.)
