Weekend report, 6/7/21
Our FTSC are still in the off-season between Spring and Summer leagues, but there are a few things to report for the past week!
In just plain fun news, FTSC hosted its first club-wide in-person event since before the pandemic started yesterday. Around 30 total people met at the Jellef Recreational Center in what turned out to be oppressively hot sun. Scorching as it was, it was still great to finally get back on the field for a while and see so many smiling faces, including a few people new to the club, so welcome to them!
In some mixed but subsequently exciting news, IGLFA announced late last week that they and the organizers of the 2022 Gay Game in Hong Kong were parting ways, meaning the first Asian Gay Games would not include an official IGLFA world championship tournament, a first for the Gay Games. Instead, FTSC is one of two cities (the other being Sydney, Australia) now bidding to host IGLFA's 2022 World Championship in place of the Gay Games. Our board has been working hard behind the scenes to put first the statement of interest and now an official bid together to host the premier event, with the next due date being just next Monday as IGLFA hopes to have the 2022 tournament host decided by July 1st. We hope to put our best foot forward and bring our worldwide LGBTQ+ soccer family to DC! See IGLFA's statement here.
